The Road (book Report)

November 10, 2008

I read “The Road,” by Cormack McCarthy.

This book is the abomination of what humanity could become… what humanity is without a biosphere. The book is about a man and his son scavenging and traveling across a barren apocalyptic waste land formerly known as America. Its about the love and humanity of the two of them even through the savage, suffering and cannibalism that is left of mankind.

It is a beautifully written story about a tiny flicker of hope in the pitch dark of a dying species.

There is a movie being made of the Road. It looks like an instant classic with Viggo Mortensen and a great although tragic plot.

Ironman vs. Avengers

Iron Man Avengers
From: daily pop

I’m on my way to see Iron Man again. Yep, it was that good. I’m really glad it didn’t suck. As a long time Marvel fan, I was excited when the trailers for X-Men & and Spiderman cam out. But honestly, I just don’t think they were very good movies. The effects were great, Hugh Jackman is an awesome Wolverine, Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart are great in any role, but the.. magic just wasn’t there for me. I’ve always like Blade but most of the other Marvel based movies have just not been that good.

Iron Man is an exception. Its got some of every good thing about Marvel and Hollywood. Its really good.

Let me just say that I became a fan of Director Jon Favreau after I saw Made. His success on Iron Man just highlights his talents. I didn’t know he was this multi-dimensional. His vision is looking beyond mere “Iron Man” because Favreau features Col. James Rupert Rhodes (played by Terrence Howard) a good friend of Tony Starks. Col. Rhodes is none other than War Machine in Marvel comics. In one scene Rhodes looks back at one of Tony’s suits and says: “Another time, baby”

Favreau also feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Nick Fury - Hoff vs. Sam Jackson
from: Super Hero Universe
As you can see from the Superherouniverse.com image, Nick Fury was once played by the Hoff. He looks the part however for some reason he gives me Dolph Lundren flashbacks {shivers @ the thought}

The REAL Nick Fury looks like this:

I’ve always thought that Kris Kristofferson not only looks like Nick Fury but has a cow boy drill sergeant presence that was great when played the part of Whistler on Blade. It would have done well as Fury too.
